Kappanga or Omakka

Seeing the Papaya tree in our site, our friend Santosh referred to it as Omakka (ഓമയ്ക്ക). I had not heard of that name before. At Cherthala, we call it kappanga (കപ്പങ്ങ), kaplanga (കപ്ലങ്ങ) , kappanja (കപ്പഞ്ഞ) or papparakka (പപ്പരയ്ക്ക). I wonder if there is any other regional name for the fruit? Please add your comments.

    We call it 'kappanga' in Alleppey.

    This is a very useful fruit. I remember, for worm and stomach related problems, my grandma used to give us its serum mixed with sugar. Very effective!

    ഞങ്ങളുടെ നാട്ടില്‍ ഇതിനെ ഓമയ്ക്ക എന്നു വിളിക്കുന്നു, (Pathanamthitta). Very effective medicinal fruit for stomach related complaints.

    In Wayanad, some people call it Karmoosa.

    We can see different names for the same produce is been used. This site is becomming interesting .keep going friends ... some of the name i am hearing for the first time.
